After reading this article, the myth surrounding the Mongolian biker gang will no longer be a secret to you. Let’s find out right away. But before you do that, let’s introduce you to our skull “”leather jackets”” , which are very popular among the bikers in our community.

History of the Mongolian Biker Gang

The Mongols MC was founded in Los Angeles in the late 1960s by David Santillan. Motorcycling and a good time with buddies were the buzzwords for the first few months after the club was founded. Until these quiet pursuits were soon mixed with a little crime, then a lot of crime… Starting out as a small, run-of-the-mill motorcycle group, the club grew into one of the most controversial motorcycle communities in the United States in less than 15 years . 😵

The Mongolians are best known for frequently committing violent crimes. They ambush, intimidate, and commit murder to defend their territoryand to maintain the club’s reputation. They have also committed racially motivated acts of violence against African American gang members. Black civilians who did not belong to any gang were not spared either. Because of their crimes, the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco and Firearms called the Mongols ”  America’s most violent and dangerous BMC .”

The majority of the Mongols’ members are Hispanic males living in the Los Angeles area. Many of them are former street gang members with criminal records linked to violence and assault. According to the federal police, the Mongolian gang has around 2,000 members, which today are spread across various states in America. That number is relatively small compared to gangs like the  Hells Angels . Despite their size, they managed to wrest control of Southern California from the Angels. This happened in the 1980s after a long war between the two clans…

Criminal Activities of Members

Members of the Mongols have long histories of illegal drug trafficking, money laundering, theft, extortion, murder and assault. These crimes have made the gang one of the most feared clubs in America. At times , 270 arrest warrants were issued against the Mongols at the same time. They were banned from wearing their brand’s logo. The order was later overturned, but they were fined half a million dollars. That amount seemed ridiculously small for these self-proclaimed outlaws. 🤔

Let’s consider together some dates that marked the history of the motorcycle club:

⇒ 2002: Members of the Mongols and Hells Angels confronted each other at Harrah’s Laughlin Casino in Laughlin. This claimed three fatalities among the motorcyclists. On February 23, 2007, two members of the Hells Angels were convicted for their respective roles in the motorcyclists’ deaths. ⇒ 2008: The club was infiltrated

by four ATF agents in an operation called Black Rain . The operation resulted in the arrest of 38 Mongols, including then-Mongol National President Ruben Doc Cavazos. He was later expelled from the club by vote.

⇒ October 4, 2008: Christopher Ablett, a member of the Mongols, surrendered to authorities in Bartlesville, Oklahoma. He had assassinated Hells Angels President Mark “Papa” Guardado in San Francisco. His bail was set at $5 million.

⇒ December 20, 2008: In Las Vegas, members of the Mongols attended « A Special Memories Wedding Chapel ». It was about the marriage of a clan member. They discovered that a local Hells Angels biker had just finished his own ceremony. According to the information of KTNV channel 13, the Hells Angels attacked the members of the Mongolson. They took three of them to the hospital, two of whom sustained stab wounds. No arrests were made and local authorities say they are still looking for suspects involved in the attack.

⇒ October 28, 2014: In San Gabriel, David Martinez, a member of the Mongols, reportedly shot and killed Shaun Diamond. The latter was a member of the Pomona Police Department’s SWAT team. Diamond was shot dead with a shotgun during a search warrant. Martinez shot Diamond after the officer turned away from the doorway due to the burglary procedure. Police officer Diamond died at dawn on October 29, 2014 at Huntington Memorial Hospital. Martinez was sentenced to death. ⚖️

Mongolians have amassed large sums of money over the years. The money came from thefts of dozens or even hundreds of motorcycles, as well as from arms and drug deals. In recent years, the club has reportedly refrained from engaging in any other criminal activity. This was a commitment made following the election of David Santillan as the club’s president in 2015.

Mongols MC-Logo

A very important point for a motorcycle club is of course the club colors. Members must wear the logo on their leather jackets and proudly display the club’s emblems. Let’s see together what the logo of the Mongolian motorcycle gang looks like:

Sunglasses, a Mexican mustache, a ponytail at the back of your head and a smirk? The least that can be said is that this Mexican face is unusual! It is accompanied by the name “Mongols MC” often written above it and the location where the clan is located. If it’s a group from Los Angeles, you’ll find “Los Angeles” under the head, or “California”. The logo is almost always black and white. Sometimes it happens that the Mexican in question can be seen on a motorcycle. 🏍

Another important fact is that members of the Mongols have their own scrambled languageto have. They use them to communicate with each other in secret situations. For example, Code 55 means that all members of the biker gang must hide any affiliation with the group. So you must avoid wearing their jackets, patches or anything that bears the logo of the Mongols. This happens, for example, when major investigations are carried out on the backs of the gang. 🛡

If there’s one thing outlaw biker club members are proud of, it’s their patches. The patches show a member’s loyalty and commitment to the gang they belong to. They also show their achievements and rank within the club. Because of this, they don’t like being prevented from wearing their logo. But that’s exactly what happened in 2008, when prosecutors were authorized before the trial to arrest anyone with this logo. The decision was later overturned by a California judge because it violated both the First and Eighth Amendments to the law.

infiltration of law enforcement

En 1998, l’agent William Queen du « Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, and Explosives » ( ATF ) was sent on an undercover mission. The aim was to collect evidence against the Mongols and to create a file. Queen eventually became a full member and vice chairman of the Los Angeles Section. Over a 28 month period, evidence gathered by Queen led to the arrest of 54 Mongolians , 53 of whom were convicted… 🤐

The club was infiltrated again in 2008 by four ATF agents in an operation called Black Rain. The operation resulted in the arrest of 38 Mongols.

War against the Mexican mafia

In 2004, a group of Mongolians fought members of Lasondra, a gang loyal to the Mexican mafia. It was about a drug operation that the gang ran at a motel where the Mongols were staying. The confrontation resulted in the operation being stopped by the police, which angered the Mafia. The Mongols were ordered to pay a sum of US$10,000 to compensate for the mafia’s losses. 💸

The bikers refused to pay, leading to a street war that left many dead on both sides. Eventually, the two parties met behind closed doors and resolved the war between them. To this day, it is not known what happened at that meeting. However, law enforcement believe a monetary deal was struck.

Global expansion is underway

What started out as a simple motorcycle club in California has grown into something much bigger over the years. In addition to founding numerous clans across the United States, the Mongols eventually expanded throughout the world. With groups in countries such as Australia, Denmark, Germany and several others, the club has grown into an “international organization”.

Some groups, and especially in Germany, are not even motorcyclists. The pinnacle for a motorcycle gang… But there are also clans that simply stick to the club’s values without riding a motorcycle. This is the case of a German group formed in 2010 whose members cannot ride motorcycles. Instead, they use their car to get around and don’t even have a motorcycle license. The chairman of the German Mongols Motorcycle Club, Mustafa B, eventually acquired a driver’s license in order to “lead by example”, as he says. However, he eventually had an accident and died shortly after the club was formed. ☠️

Hells Angels VS Mongols

Some facts about the Mongolian Motorcycle Group

In an interview with Orange Country Register, several Mongolians talk about their military service and their withdrawal from the special forces. They talk about what they experienced during that time and how they found sanctuary at the Mongols Club . Barefoot, a member of the Mongols and ex-Marine, explains: « These guys have helped me with many things. When I was at a bad point in my life, they helped me pay my rent. These are really strong people. They are 100% there for you ». So, let’s revisit some of the factors behind this gang’s stats in more detail:

1) The Brotherhood

The members of the club consider and treat each other like family . Some even put their “real” family aside in favor of the club. President of the San Diego Chapter of the Mongols, Mike Munz, tells Gangland, “I was shot for this club, I was stabbed while I was in this club, I was in jail for this club. You know, a lot of people don’t understand that, but do you know why I’m doing this? Because in this group I have people who love me and who care about me and that … is priceless ». ✌️

2) The encrypted language

This isn’t about codes we used in school to make sure our plans to skip classes weren’t foiled. We’re talking about military-style codes used by club members. Codes used to communicate confidentially with each other and when certain devices could not be used. They spoke their own language, so to speak.

3) The art of communication

When the Mongols reached a record 100 members, things started to go bad for them. During this time, the club was first infiltrated. Several people were arrested, putting the club in quite an awkward position. The infiltration was televised, a move law enforcement thought would be deadly for the club … 👇

However, this media exposure was beneficial for the gang. Since then, the number of its members has grown steadily to this day. The then-President and Vice-President always made sure that “bad publicity” worked to the gang’s advantage, and over the years they have proven they’ve done a remarkable communication job, pulling every bit of bad news in their favor!

4) A multiracial gang

In 1969 a group of men applied to join the Hells Angels, one of the most respected motorcycle clubs in the world. However, they were denied admission because of their race. After this incident, they applied to join the Mongols Motorcycle Club , specifically to fight the Angels again. So, of course, they became the Hells Angels’ biggest rivals. The two clubs eventually went to war with each other, even killing members on both sides. 🧐

Join the biker movement too

To sum up, the Mongolian Motorcycle Club was originally established to gather friends and have a good time among motorcycle fans. Very quickly, the goal became a terror for the population and other rival clubs. The club has endured several arrests and has faced the judiciary to answer for their actions… Today the club is much calmer and is trying to clean up the image of yesteryear! 😏
